Teaching and Learning Policy

At St Martin`s Primary School, we believe that learning and teaching are interactive. We are determined to teach children how to learn to learn in order to become independent learners and develop skills for life-long learning. We believe children learn better when they are excited and engaged through excellent teaching which challenges them and shows them what they can do; learning that develops and stretches them, and excites their imagination. Our school provides a richness of learning, by learning different things but also learning in different ways, and we ensure that all of the learning is of high quality which is planned and managed so that every child is supported and challenged. We believe in developing a strong partnership with parents/ carers to ensure that learning outside of our school thrives. Please click here for more information.

Behaviour Policy

At St. Martins Primary School we recognize the importance of a positive approach to the behaviour of pupils in school. The essence of good behaviour is consideration and respect for others and the environment. Please click here for more information.

Foundation Stage Policy

We aim to provide a learning environment, indoors and outdoors, that encourages a positive attitude to learning through rich and stimulating experiences and by ensuring each child feels included. We aim to use materials, equipment and displays that reflect the community the children come from and the wider world. We encourage children to make choices and develop independence by having equipment and materials readily available and well organised. We try to provide resources that inspire children and encourage them to initiate their own learning. We interact and support children in a way that positively affects their attitude to learning. Marking and Feedback Policy for Parents

We aim to support, structure, mediate and scaffold childrens learning by helping them to address the gap between what they already know, understand or can do at a given moment and what they will want or need to know, understand or be able to do in the future. We aim to help children to bridge that gap themselves by giving effective verbal feedback and by making written comments count. Our aim is to involve children as far as possible in the analysis and constructive criticism of their own work. Children should continually self-evaluate so that reflection, pride in success, modification and improvement becomes a natural part of their learning process. Please click here for more information.

Food and Nutrition Policy

Children and young people need to eat a varied and balanced diet for their concentration and performance at school, their health, growth and development, their resistance to illness and to develop a healthy lifestyle to last into adulthood. A poorly balanced diet can lead to obesity, dental decay, poor resistance to infection, anaemia, and in later life coronary heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Our aim is to give our pupils clear, consistent and positive messages about food, thereby encouraging them to make healthy food choices both in and outside school, now and in the future.
