Enquiry-Based Learning
We offer a wide range of learning opportunities for our children, but one that is coming to the fore-front is enquiry-based or enquiry-led learning. This gives the children the chance to 'learn through doing'. Enquiry-based learning is a process in which the children have authority over the aim, scope or topic of their learning. This draws on their research skills and also their ability to generalise from situations that they are already familiar with. We feel that this develops creativity skills of the children and allows them to have more ownership over their work.
There is a lot of enquiry-led work throughout the school. The video below gives an example of the processes involved when the Year 6 children researched the Victorians for The Great Exhibition.
Kagan
Recently, the staff at the school have received training on the Kagan approach to co-operative learning. It comprises of a series of structures that enable all children to have the opportunity to express their thoughts and ideas. The video below is an example of Kagan in action.
